Petrichor Bookzine
Petrichor is a publication between a photo book and a zine - a “bookzine”. I make them myself using my photo printer, Japanese washi photo paper, and other materials to make the end product. There are two types: Petrichor (Chroma) for colour images and Petrichor (Mono) for monochrome.
The concept of Petrichor is showing the grittiness of The City (in this case Tokyo) through the roughness and imperfections of the washi paper. incorporating the Japanese aesthetic of beautiful imperfection or “wabi-sabi”. The term “petrichor” is what you smell when rain hits something mineral such as asphalt on a city street or cement of an office building.
